Information for Exhibition Managers

Brockley Green S.E.4. is my first solo layout after being a part of
various teams
which have directly built or had a hand in building some ten exhibition
layouts over the last few years for various members and sections of the
Hull Miniature Railway Society of
which I am an Hon. Vice President. Those layouts included,
"North Wirral", “Rushenden (Metals) Ltd.”, “Chessington
(Chalk
Lane)”, for the Hull M.R.S. and
“Walker Marine”. for the C.S.I. group. I also assisted in building “Culreoch (A layout in
six weeks)”, "Castle Hill (A train set in six weeks)"and
"St. Minions".(A layout in six feet) Then I branched out for the East Riding Fine Scale Modellers into 0 gauge with,
“Hospital Gates”.
Now strictly for myself, I present a fictitious station on the Southern Region of
British Railways. It’s on the Nunhead to Lewisham line. It is
anytime in the 1960’s and in an attempt to model a feature of
the
“Southern Electric” system I have not seen done
before in
the many years I have travelled to exhibitions in this country and
aboard; I have constructed the
tramway overhead wire system installed
at that time in certain shunting yards. My main running lines do have
the conventional third rail and I have fitted two
“flash”
units for which I have become known for over the years.
Trains reverse by way of a
"Rat Run" which has attracted alot of attention as a space saver.
As well as E.M.U’s there are several steam locos to be seen,
from
the ugly
Bulleid Q1 to the beautiful ex S.E.C.R. 4-4-0
Class L.
Brockley Green S.E.4. first appeared at the Hull show in Nov 2004. and
has crossed the country several times and has become an
international one after appearing in
Bremen and Neumunster in Germany,
Blankenberg in
Belgium, Sedan in France and Houten in Holland. So much so that modifications have had to be made to the carrying boxes for
customs inspections
The layout has featured on the front cover of the
March 2005 edition of the “Railway
Modeller”.and recently an article with photos was in the
Christmas 2007 "Model Rail" issue number 112 and is booked to appear in the Feb 2010 Hornby Magazine.
Space is required full length at the rear of the layout and exhibition managers must refer to the
general arrangement
diagram for the overall
diamensions. These are
4.9 Mtrs X 2.75Mtrs or 16
feet long X 9 feet deep.
THESE ARE ABSOLUTE MINIMUMS.
I have experienced difficulties in the past where atleast a couple of managers have tried
to "shoe-horn" the layout into a space where it could be seen but not operated.
"No names, no Pack Drill"
The
brochure diagram
is provided for that purpose only and should not be scaled from. The
layout is self-supporting with it's own lights and an electrical
loading of around 300 watts and therefore, only one 13 amp socket is
required.
A small private van is used for transport at the moment, in Mar 09,
however the right is reserved to change to the use of a commercial van hire
company should the need arise.
Therefore, at the moment, there will be
no van rental charges, only a preagreed charge
for fuel based on distance travelled plus a charge for running costs
(insurance, road tax, wear and tear, etc).
Two day shows will require a set up on the Friday evening and
due to the advancing age of some of the operators, easy access to exhibition halls
is requested. No
staircases please! One-day shows will only
be considered
(outside of the Hull area) if the previous night’s
accommodation
and set up time is offered.
There are only
two (2) operators but one could be my wife or my daughter and therefore we would
always require a
twin bedded accommodation in a
B & B.
The layout is valued for insurance purposes at £8,000
It should be noted that some of the photographs have had minor digital enhancement to remove unwanted blemishes.
